Captain Larsen is 38 years old, and started as a deck cadet at 17 years old. After completing his time in the Navigational Academy, he then spent about 2 years in the Danish Royal Navy and left the Navy as a Lieutenant. After his time in the Navy he worked his way up as an Officer on cargo ships, sailing on tankers.

Before joining Fred Olsen Cruise Lines in 2007, Captain Larsen sailed with Explorer Cruises in South America and Antarctica for 6 years. He started at Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines in May 2007 as Chief Officer.  He had two contracts as Chief Officer on board Boudicca before he was promoted to Captain in January 2007.
